ADVANCING EQUITY IN BRAZILIAN PROTECTED AREAS

Advancing Equity in Brazilian Protected Area Management

We are working with colleagues at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in NE Brazil, conservation practitioners and local communities to address the issue of equity in protected area management. The project has the following aims:

1) Co-produce knowledge on ecological and social change in and around the Catimbau National Park.

2) Measure small-scale variation in perceptions of equity, in relation to protected area governance.

3) Support the development of tangible plans for different stakeholders to contribute to enhanced equity for communities within and around the national park.

4) Build capacity among national park staff to advance equity in protected area management in Brazil.
